TREATS FOR TEENS TURNS 14 in 2009!
As Treats for Teens (TFT) enters its 14th annual holiday season of helping North Florida�s disadvantaged teens, we once again turn to the community and ask that they look into their hearts and pockets to help us remember a demographic often overlooked, particularly during the holiday season. Treats for Teens, founded in 1995 by Gail Stansberry-Ziffer, is the flagship community project of Raising A Healthy Child, Inc. (RAHC), a not for profit 501(c) 3 organization (Federal Tax ID # 59-2996405). Each year, the volunteer board raises money to offer support, positive reinforcement and recognition to North Florida�s disadvantaged teens. TFT gives 100% of dollars raised directly to the teens in the form of gift cards purchased by TFT. The gift cards provide the teens an opportunity for an outing and the pleasure of shopping for what they need. They are also praised for making responsible choices that keep them safe, active, and involved in community programs. One of the most exciting parts of the program is that we have found many recipients use the gift cards to purchase holiday gifts for their loved ones, learning a bit about money management and more importantly, a classic example of �paying it forward�, both valuable life lessons.
Through the generosity of financial donations from friends throughout the community, in 2008 Treats for Teens helped brightened Christmas for 277 teens affiliated with non-profit agencies and schools, including 12 of The Boys & Girls Clubs in Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, and Franklin counties; FACE (Florida Arts & Cultural Enrichment); and Capital City Youth Services as TFT�s was able to purchase each of them a $75.00 Governors Square Mall gift card (a total of $15,060).
2009 GOAL
Our 2009 goal is $30,000. We anticipate serving 300+ teens once again. We hope to have our holiday donations in hand by December 15 so we may purchase and distribute the gift cards to all organizations.
